Types of Psychic Readings, Explained Plainly
Not every reading format answers the same kind of question. Here’s what each one actually involves, so you can pick the right one instead of guessing.

Tarot Reading
A tarot reading uses a deck of illustrated cards, drawn and laid out in a pattern called a spread, as a structured prompt for the reader’s interpretation. It tends to work best for open-ended questions about a current situation rather than yes-or-no predictions. A straightforward session should walk you through what each drawn card means in the context of the question you actually asked, not recite generic card meanings you could look up yourself.
Astrology Reading
An astrology reading is built from your birth date, time, and location, mapped against planetary positions to construct a natal chart. It’s more structured and less improvisational than tarot. A reader working this format should be able to point to a specific chart placement driving a given piece of guidance, not just describe your personality in terms broad enough to fit almost anyone.
Mediumship, or Connecting With a Loved One
Mediumship readings claim to relay messages from someone who has died. This is the format most associated with cold-reading techniques: broad, high-probability statements refined in real time based on your reactions. Read our guide on how cold reading works before booking one of these specifically. Knowing the pattern doesn’t tell you whether the reading is genuine, but it makes you a sharper listener during the session.
Dream Interpretation
A dream reading works from the images, people, and events in a specific dream you describe, and offers a symbolic interpretation of them. It depends heavily on how much detail you provide upfront. A reader working from a two-sentence dream description has far less material than one working from a full account, so the more precisely you can describe the dream, the more the session has to work with.
Love & Relationship Reading
This is the single most requested reading category across every platform we cover. These sessions focus on a specific relationship or a specific pattern within one. A useful session should engage with the actual details you provide about that relationship, not default to generic reassurance regardless of what you describe.
Career Reading
Career readings focus on professional decisions: job changes, timing, workplace conflict. Sessions in this category tend to be the most concretely actionable of the six, since career questions usually involve a real decision with a real deadline rather than an open-ended emotional question with no fixed timeline.
