Questions to Ask Before You Pay for a Psychic Reading
By Maren Sokolov · Published August 5, 2026· 6 min read

You don’t need to interrogate anyone before a psychic reading, but there’s a short list of questions worth answering for yourself before you enter payment details — most of them can be answered from a platform’s own pricing and terms pages, without asking a reader anything directly.
1. What Is the Exact Rate, and Is It Shown Before I Create an Account?
Start here, because it’s the fastest way to filter out a platform that isn’t worth your time. If you can’t find a per-minute or per-session rate without signing up first, that alone is worth noting. A platform confident in its pricing usually shows it plainly; one that makes you commit personal information before revealing a number is asking for trust it hasn’t earned yet.
2. What Does the Satisfaction Guarantee Actually Cover?
Not “is there a guarantee” — what does it specifically say. Look for a stated timeframe for filing a claim, a stated process for how you actually request it, and stated grounds for what qualifies. “We stand behind every reading” tells you nothing enforceable. A policy that says a claim must be filed within a specific number of hours, credited within a specific number of business days, and capped at a specific amount tells you something you can actually hold the platform to.
3. What Is This Reader’s Stated Specialty, and Does Their Profile Show Verifiable Experience?
A profile that lists a specific specialty — say, relationship readings or career timing — alongside a plausible amount of stated experience is different from one with a vague catch-all description that could apply to almost any reader on the platform. Neither guarantees a good session, but a specific claim is at least a claim you can hold the reader to during the conversation itself.
4. Does the Free-Minutes Offer Apply to This Specific Reader, and When Does the Clock Start?
Introductory offers frequently apply to only a subset of readers, or come with a cap on total value rather than a flat number of guaranteed minutes. Check the platform’s own terms for exactly when the timer starts — connection or actual reading — and whether switching readers mid-session resets, extends, or forfeits whatever free time remains.
5. Is There a Running Cost Indicator During the Session Itself?
For any per-minute billing model, ask whether a live running total is actually documented as part of the product, not just something you can estimate afterward from a receipt. A platform that builds this into the session experience is treating cost transparency as a feature rather than an afterthought. If nothing in the platform’s own help pages describes a visible counter, budget conservatively and consider setting a personal time limit before you connect.
6. How Do I Actually Reach Support If Something Goes Wrong?
Before you need it, check whether there’s a specific, working way to escalate a problem — a support email, a phone number, a documented ticketing system — and whether the platform states any commitment to a response time. A platform that only offers a generic contact form with no stated turnaround is a different proposition from one that names a specific channel and a specific expectation.
7. What Happens If a Session Drops Due to a Technical Issue?
Connection problems happen on any platform, especially for video and phone formats. Check whether the terms say anything about credits or refunds for a session that’s cut short by a technical failure on the platform’s end, as opposed to one that simply ends because the reading concluded. If this isn’t addressed anywhere in the published terms, that’s a gap worth knowing about before it happens to you, not after.
8. Would This Purchase Survive a Side-by-Side Comparison?
Before committing, it’s worth asking whether you’ve actually compared this platform against an alternative on the same terms — same reading format, same rough price point, same category of guarantee — or whether you’re evaluating it in isolation because it’s the first one you found. A platform that looks reasonable on its own can look considerably less so once its refund wording and vetting disclosure sit next to a competitor’s.
Why Bother Asking Instead of Just Trying It
It’s tempting to skip all of this and just book a session — most purchases in life don’t come with an eight-item pre-check. But a psychic reading has two features that make the extra step worth it: the “product” is largely intangible, so there’s little to point to afterward if it falls short, and payment usually happens before you have any real basis for judging whether the platform or reader was a good fit. Those two facts together mean the terms you agree to upfront are doing more of the protective work than they would for an ordinary purchase you can simply return.
What to Do If a Platform Won’t Answer
If you can’t find clear answers to these questions in a platform’s own pricing page, terms of service, or FAQ, that’s informative on its own. A platform with nothing to hide about its rates or its refund process generally has no reason to keep that information vague or hard to locate. Treat a pattern of unclear answers as a data point, not a dealbreaker on its own — but weigh it against how much money you’re about to spend finding out the hard way.
We Already Did This Homework for Six Platforms
Answering all eight of these questions from scratch for every platform you’re considering takes real time, and most people don’t do it before they’ve already paid. That’s the specific gap this site exists to close: we’ve already read the pricing pages, the guarantee wording, and the reader-vetting claims for six major platforms, quoted the specifics, and scored them against one fixed rubric. See how we test for the full method, or go straight to the current rankings to see how the answers to these questions actually compare across the platforms we cover.
Bottom Line
None of these questions require any special expertise to answer — they just require actually reading the page instead of the headline. A platform that answers all eight plainly, in its own published terms, is telling you something meaningfully different from one that answers none of them without a live chat conversation first.
